I thought I'd finished

I thought that the face masks I’d made last year would be more than sufficient to keep us going, however long the pandemic lasted. I’d made them properly, using non-woven bonded interfacing inside both layers and they washed well, becoming softer and more comfortable as the weeks went by.

But since then, I’ve found better ear loops, proper purpose-made nose clips and the very first masks I made were beginning to look a bit tired. I’ll confess too, I was getting a bit tired of mine too!

Time for some fresh designs.

I bought some gorgeous Liberty prints when we were in London a couple of weeks ago. Their Tana Lawn is so fine and the designs so pretty too. It was quite hard knowing which to choose!

One of them was a dead cert from the minute I saw it!

It’s a slow job, cutting out so many pieces but quite fun choosing the best colour ear loop for each one. I’d bought an assorted pack of hundreds of the things and it’s really surprising how there always seems to be the perfect match!

After a morning’s cutting, the afternoon was filled with sewing, clipping seams and pressing. By the time I was done, I’d got fourteen masks finished to share with Edward, Amy, my Hero and myself. Except I looked at those fabrics and thought the men were getting a raw deal. Of course, there’s no reason why Edward or my Hero couldn’t wear a garden themed, flowery mask - but I thought they’d probably prefer something a little more subdued.

I very much doubted that they - or us - would really want to wear his’n’her masks, either! I thought it best to stick to just one of each fabric per household.

So the following day, I got out the template, the interfacing and the other bits and pieces and made another half dozen masks in quieter fabrics - with the exception of the Kaffe Fassett red and purple one, which is a bit more of a bobby dazzler.

So we have five new masks each. I wonder if that will really be it?
