I enjoyed making Sid and took a look at Christie Bears website for inspiration for my next project. In choosing some different fabrics and other component parts, I spotted another kit. This was for a small bear by the name of Jack. I thought the process of working through a second (different) pattern would be useful experience too.

Jack came together quite well, though he won’t mind my sharing the observation that not only is Sid’s fur thicker and more cuddly, he’s a little more portly than Jack, who is really quite skinny!

Sid was keen to be part of the process however, offering a little supportive hug from time to time.

Before he was ready to take on the world, however, Jack needed a little tweakment. His eyes were not set securely and his joints were way too loose. Those were soon sorted, though the little bald patch on his chest is just going to have to be part of his personality.

All done and dusted, he decided to go on his first modelling assignment in the garden. He stood among the pots admiring the cyclamen to begin with.

Sitting by the sage, he thought he’d show off his fine figure and long limbs.

Now he was just being silly.

However sweetly he looked at me, there was no way I was getting him a fishing rod.

So he came inside and looked at the wedding cake book instead. Maybe he can offer advice?

Jack is a cute bear, though I prefer Sid’s tubbier shape and also the method of working that particular pattern. I also think it’s worth buying the best quality mohair fabric - no bald patches please!
