Jolly. Another one.
At this time of the year, the good times just keep on coming.
Last night, my hero scuttled off half way through his choir practice and we drove to Heathrow to stay overnight and be sure to have a good start on our flight this morning.
When we are at home, we always enjoy watching the lunchtime flights overhead and sure enough, today we flew on that same flightpath, maybe a little earlier than we'd normally be watching, but nevertheless, we pictured the scene way down there beneath us. It's just a shortish 7 hour flight over the Atlantic and it went by in no time - well three episodes of Desert Island Discs (Sophie Friedman, Rick Wakeman and George Michael) and a double feature about Leonard Cohen including plenty of his music but more importantly, enough of his sonorous voice to send me to sleep from time to time - fortunately, there was a "back" button on the controller!
It being Black Friday and all of that, Thanksgiving Weekend and a time for most Americans to be at home (or out shopping) in less than half an hour we were in a taxi heading for our hotel. We were feeling thankful for our Global Entry "Trusted Traveler Status" too, though.
It's a fine, clear day here and we lost no time in getting out into the fresh air and walking all of a couple of hundred yard across the street into the Mall opposite.
But things have changed here since we were last in Boston and some old favourites have gone (including Chicos and Williams Sonoma ...:-( ) But it was fun to browse amongst the serious shoppers and to spend time in one old favourite which has merely moved a few doors down.
For now, I resisted the temptation of the velvet dress in Eileen Fisher though. Well, we are here all weekend, after all...
Discovering that the branch of Legal Seafoods we've frequently used was one of the stores we were missing, we considered giving the new Eataly a try. After all, we love the Chicago and New York versions of this Italian "department restaurant", But then we saw the crowds and thought better of it.
Saying hello to the Ralph Lauren Polo bear as we passed by, we retraced our steps and returned to the "other" Legal Seafoods we knew. A few scallops, prawns and a crab cake and salad later, we were ready to return to our comfortable room where we might try to stay awake for a while more by writing a blog post and making plans for tomorrow.
It's so good to be here!
